Santa has dropped off some Safety Tips after his visit around Woodsboro two nights ago:

“SMOKE DETECTORS: Please CHECK and make sure that your SMOKE DETECTORS are working PROPERLY. Too many times, the BATTERIES are not REPLACED; especially in the kitchen area where the SMOKE DETECTORS are disconnected because they go off when you are cooking. It’s not the smoke detectors fault, but the SMOKE DETECTORS ARE DOING THEIR JOB.

CARBON MONOXIDE: It is vital that you install a Carbon monoxide detector especially if you use a generator when the power is off. Why? Generators produce a silent and deadly exhaust. The generators need to be placed far enough away from the residence and occupied areas. Every year, many die from the silent and deadly fumes from the exhaust of the generators. Santa has seen them setting at the top steps of basements. Santa has also seen them on the porch or decks of homes. Remember, your home or business structure has a natural draft that will suck the fumes inside. These fumes are a silent and deadly weapon!

HEATING: Please make sure your heating systems are serviced and are working properly. In some residences, Santa couldn’t get down the chimney because the chimneys were stopped up with soot. Cracks in the chimney can allow smoke and fire to escape into the residence.

ELECTRIC CORDS: Please be careful not to overload extension cords and power strips, especially while using Christmas lights.

CANDLES: One of the most dangerous and costly thing we do during the Holidays, BURN CANDLES. Remember, candles are an open flame, do not leave them unattended. Every year, homes are destroyed and life’s are lost because of improperly use of candles.

"The Woodsboro Volunteer Fire Company would like to thank Santa Claus and his family for taking time out of their busy schedule to visit the Community. We would also like to say "Thank You" to all who have supported us during the Santa Tour, throughout the year, and those who have been dropping Toys off at the station for the "Toys For Tots" program this year. We certainly could not do any of this without your support. Have a Merry Christmas, and be safe this holiday season." (WVFC President)
